answer

step1:  I will compare the page with the results from page 1. I will check search intent, content depth, on-page optimization, backlinks.

step2: Fix search intent mismatch

step 3: optimize meta title and meta description

step 4: Then I will read the competitor's content and add missing subtopics and FAQs, Optimize headings and semantic keywords naturally. I will try to provide valuable content to the user.

step5: I will do internal linking and try to get high quality backlinks.

I decide what to work on first by looking at what page-1 competitors are doing better and choosing the changes that can make the biggest impact with the least effort.

It's called keyword cannibalization. This issue arises when more than one page of the same website is ranking for a single keyword or similar keyword. These types of pages compete against each other to hurt sites organic performance.

To fix it, I’d:
Merge the content if both pages serve the same purpose, and redirect the URL to some other relevant URL
Remove other page
Remove the keyword from another and try to rank it on a different keyword by adding new content to it.
